From 1st of April 2021 Level 2 Award for Working as a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry  course is minimum 4 days in class when learner completes 8 hours distance learning before the start of the course. Learner must have completed Emergency First Aid At Work (EFAAW) as well before joining the course.


In order to obtain an SIA licence you will need to show that you are trained to the right level. This applies to front line staff only.

To get one of the qualifications linked to Security Guard licensing you will need to attend and take three training modules and pass three exams. The duration of the training should be 28 hours. The course may be delivered over four days or during weekends and/or evening sessions.



COURSE STRUCTURE

Unit 1: Principles of Working in the Private Security Industry

  • Know the main characteristics and purpose of the Private Security Industry 
  • Understand legislation as it applies to a security operative 
  • Understand arrest procedures relevant to security operative
  • Understand the importance of safe working practices 
  • Understand fire procedures in the workplace 
  • Understand emergencies and the importance of emergency procedures
  • Understand how to communicate effectively as a security operative 
  • Understand record keeping relevant to the role security operative
  • Understand terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of a threat 
  • Understand how to keep vulnerable people safe 
  • Understand good practice for post incident management 

Unit 2: Principles of Working as a Security Officer in the Private Industry 

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of security officers
  • Know the different types of electronic and physical protection systems in the security environment
  • Know how to minimise risk to personal safety at work 
  • Understand drug-misuse legislation, issues and producers relevant to the role of security officers 
  • Know how to conduct effective search procedures 

 

Unit 3: Application of Conflict Management in the Private Security Industry

  • Understand the principles of conflict management appropriate to the role 
  • Understand how to recognise, assess, and reduce risk in conflict situation
  • Understand the use of problem-solving techniques when resolving conflict 
  • Be able to communicate to de-escalate conflict
