Course Overview

The BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in Business course has been designed for the level 3 students who plan on learning key practical skills and core sector knowledge which will prepare them for their planned career.

Students for whom an element of business would be complementary can find this course to be a great option. Also, if they plan to partake in another study programme that includes other general or vocational qualifications, this course can be considered. The course is suitable for students at or above the age of 18, who have an academic background in Business. The programme will offer those students an attractive framework for practical learning.

Course Outline/Modules

The BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in Business is a 2-unit course and both are mandatory.

  • 180 GLH (240 TQT)
  • Equivalent in size to 0.5 of an A Level.

Units offered include:

  • Unit 1. Exploring Business- (Unit size 90 GLH)
  • Under this unit, the students will learn about the formation, nature, purpose, structure and development of different businesses.
  • They will learn about the internal and external factors of the business environment.
  • The unit is designed to provide the students a foundational knowledge of business sectors.
  • Unit 2. Developing a Marketing Campaign- (Unit size 90 GLH)
  • Under this unit, the students will learn the practical skills of developing a basic marketing campaign.
  • They will also learn about the implications of some key marketing theories in practical business scenarios.

Entry Requirements

  • No formal entry requirements
  • Learners with Level 2 (or equivalent) qualifications are expected

Criteria for better likelihood to succeed

  • Five GCSEs at good grades
  • BTEC qualifications at Level 2
  • Achievement in mathematics and English through Functional or GCSE Skills
  • Evidence of having relevant work experience
  • Demonstration of specific aptitude shown through non-educational experiences or diagnostic tests.
